Description
The East 14th Street Revitalization project seeks to transform a once-thriving commercial corridor into a dynamic and inclusive space for residents and visitors. Grounded in principles of human-centric design, the vision integrates Jan Gehl’s ideas of edges and public interaction with sustainable green infrastructure and economic opportunities for local vendors.
The proposal introduces a “Green Loop” to unify surrounding green spaces, create habitable building edges, and improve pedestrian mobility. By addressing challenges such as vacant storefronts, lack of identity, and congestion, the project emphasizes creating spaces for community gathering, supporting informal economies like the Immaculate Church flea market, and fostering a safe, welcoming environment. Through these interventions, East 14th Street is positioned as a vital nexus for social connection and neighborhood vitality.
